M&A Strategy Phase Overview

The phase M&A strategy definition is the first phase of the M&A process model defined in [Popp20] and describes the steps for a company to create and prepare the execution of an M&A strategy. The tasks of the M&A strategy phase are aligned with [Feix20]. The Due Diligence phase is described in detail in Vol. 1 of the series [Popp20].

The following tasks make up the M&A strategy phase:

  • Embedded M&A Strategy

  • Finding potential targets

  • Processing the long and short list

  • Evaluation of the fit of a target

  • M&A Capability Map

  • Finalize and Approve Deal Proposal

These tasks will be defined and described in detail by their goals, objectives, description, actions, data objects used, questions and automatability.
